A guest bedroom is a useful extension of your home that makes it easier for friends and family to come from long distances to visit you. However if you don't like house guests, you should probably consider using the space for something else, as its very existence will invite people to come and stay with you for long periods of time.
For the most part, the guest bedroom doesn't have to serve just one purpose. You can buy a fold up bed, or a futon, that can double as a couch, allowing you to double the space as an office, computer center, or TV and media room. Just be ready to give the space up when visitors come a calling.
There are a variety of features that can enhance the comfort of your potential guests, and make this room more inviting. Conveniences like a television hooked into cable, a place to connect to the internet, and even a mini fridge stocked with snacks, are all ways to make a person feel at home in your home.
Accessories such as a mirror, an alarm clock, fresh sheets, and pillow cases are all necessities when putting your guest room together. You can also have a variety of toiletries, and even towels and washcloths available to ensure that their every need is taken care of.
A well stocked closet will also have a backup set of sheets, duvets, and pillow cases, folded and waiting for use. You can also put extra blankets and pillows in here. However be certain that there is plenty of space left over for hanging and organizing their wardrobe when they get there.
Putting a small table or night stand next to the bed or futon is simple way to make the room functional. This will allow your guests to put their personal effects by the side of their bed while they sleep at night. Adding a lamp to this will give them an easy reading light that they can leave on until just before they go to sleep.
